Longing for a road trip.

Friends, since I went on a mini road trip down to St. Louis -- I've been longing or lusting for another trip. I want to just pack up and go! My good friend Kristin, borrowed me her book The 100 BEST art towns in America and it's given me a few ideas for places I'd like to check out in the Midwest. Here are some places on my list for my next road trip or mini trip along with some inspiring images.

Places to see:
1. Grand Marais, Minnesota
2. Lanesboro, Minnesota
3. Bayfield, Wisconsin
4. Ephraim, Wisconsin
5. Saugatuck, Michigan
6. Traverse City, Michigan
7.  Fargo, North Dakota/ Moorhead, Minnesota
8.  Springfield, Missouri
9.  Branson, Missouri
10.Nashville, Tennessee

Have you been to any of the places on my list? I've been to Grand Marais, Fargo and Bayfield however I would like to go back and document my time because they are great places! If you have any insight, I'd love to hear your feedback! If you have suggestions of places not on my list, send them my way!

  1. Been to Grand Marais many times - used to ski up on the gunflint trail - cruised town a few times. Lanesboro is best by bicycle. Crowded on summer weekends. LOVE Nashville, but I am a huge country music freak. Could spends days in tiny dark bars hoping to see my fav singers, but be too shy to say anything!

  2. I have been to grand marais, and moorehead! I am from grand rapids so I feel right at home in the iron range or on the north shore! that trip sounds just fabulous!!! I would love to see the north shore again in summer! Also colorado has the most amazing art towns ever! Theres a little town near the red rock amphitheatre and also Manitou springs where garden of the gods park is was really amazing and the streets were lined with art!

Branson is also great. Lots of fun stuff to do there. Road trips are so much fun :)

  4. @Teresa: I've heard the same thing about Lanesboro, good to know. I'm also a country music freak!

@Val: My family has a cabin near Grand Rapids. I love me some Colorado too. That's a whole 'nother trip! :) Thanks for the tips!

  5. You will love Traverse City! It's one of my favorite places and I even got married there (although I'm not from MI, haha). I'm headed there on Saturday and I'm so excited! I'll make sure to send some suggestions your way.

  6. Gab post. Road trips are such fun and I really like the look of all the places you suggested.

  7. Springfield, Missouri - that's where I live! Coming to Spfd means you're 30 minutes from Branson, too. I love road trips... my husband, not so much. (insert sad face) He has however decided we may drive to Vegas then fly home for our trip in November.
